Last night we attended a Tent Revival, and the speaker shared about bitterness. I thought to myself, “I don’t think I have bitterness toward anyone, but Abba show me if I do.” I woke up this morning with the word bitterness on my heart.
As I was praying the Father led me to a couple of Scriptures:
Ephesians 4:31 “Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice.” HNV
Hebrews 12:14-15 “Follow peace with all [men], and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble [you], and thereby many be defiled;” HNV
I was then led to read an article titled, “What Causes the Root of Bitterness and How to Get Rid of It.” A statement from it glaringly stood out to me, “The root of bitterness is underground; it is easy to hide and camouflage. Bitterness will affect you physically, emotionally, and spiritually because THE FRUIT OF BITTERNESS IS AN ACID THAT DESTROYS THE CONTAINER.” (emphasis mine)
A few days ago, I had an acid reflux incident that woke me up in the middle of the night. I have never experienced anything like this before. This morning I asked YHVH if this was from a root of bitterness. The answer was YES, but not towards another person…towards HIM. OUCH!
This was difficult to hear. Sometimes the truth hurts. It hurt. He lovingly and gently showed me an area of my heart that needed healing. I repented and asked YHVH to forgive me.
Check your heart my dear sisters and brothers and make sure you are not bitter towards YHVH from unmet expectations or believing HE should have allowed or not allowed something to happen in your life. He is full of grace and mercy and will forgive. Allow HIM to show you if you have a bitter root, repent, and receive forgiveness.
