Deuteronomy 5:29 Oh that they had such a heart as this always, to fear me and to keep all my commandments, that it might go well with them and with their descendants forever!
Do you desire the best for your children? Do you want them to have everything they need, to be equipped for things that happen in life? Your Heavenly Father wants the same for you! In Deut. Chapter 5 we see our Father expressing His heart toward His people. He longs that we would have a heart tender toward Him and His words, that we would revere and honor Him while adhering to His words of life that were given to us for our good.
Think back to when you were a child. Did you respond with joy and gladness when your parents expressed things they desired for you when you wanted something else? At times we would reluctantly do as we were asked, but our heart wasn’t in it, or worse yet, we ignored the instruction altogether. We may have walked away from our parents and done what they asked, but if our heart was not in it, it could have been a source of resentment for us. I have heard it said of patience that it is not just the act of waiting, but our attitude during the waiting process. This is what we should examine when life becomes difficult.
In being a disciple of YHWH, we don’t just learn actions and behaviors, we learn His heart. As the Word of YHWH is being written on our hearts it changes us. We come to desire what He desires. We learn what He wants for us, our children, and all who are called by His Name. May we have the heart to follow Him all of our days so that it may go well with us and our children as we seek restoration for all the house of Israel.
