Who We Support
BYNA exists to serve the emerging Ephraimite community in North America, and your donations help us do that. We have operating expenses, which are simply the costs of doing business as a nonprofit faith-based corporation. General donations help us with normal administrative expenses, software, trademark and copyright protection, website development and maintenance, and video production. We have a vision to assist widows, orphans, and others in need among BYNA’s affiliates, and to maintain a focus on Israel by partnering with organizations and ministries on specific projects that benefit the commonwealth of Israel in the Land and elsewhere. Before we meet expenses, we designate 20% of our monthly income (from donations and other means) for those purposes – 10% in support of needs here in North America, and 10% in support of Israel.
Why We Support
Why we support widows, orphans, and others in need: The Scriptures are full of admonitions to stand up for and help the orphan, widow, and sojourner. We are commanded to have compassion for the less fortunate (Deuteronomy 10:18, 24:19-21, 26:12, Isaiah 1:17, Jeremiah 7:6, 22:3, Zechariah 7:10, 1 Timothy 5:9-16, and James 1:27).
Our first step in assisting those in need was taken in 2019, when BYNA established the Frank Houtz Memorial Scholarship in support of music, performing arts, literature, and visual art lessons, tuition, rentals, etc. See more about the Frank Houtz Memorial Scholarship.
Why we support the Frank Houtz Memorial Scholarship: Having been part of the Hebrew Roots movement since its early days, Frank made an impact in lives across North America and overseas. He continues to disciple and mentor us all through his writings and teachings, and through the institutions he helped establish: Beit Minorah Congregation, Dry Bones Restoration Company, Jefferson College at Pilot View, and B’ney Yosef North America.
As we have prayerfully considered BYNA’s part in building on what Frank began, the desire in our hearts was to create a living legacy that would live on into the distant future – not only to Frank’s family but to others who will be in need. Because of Frank’s great love for music, the performing arts, literature, etc., BYNA has created an annual scholarship that will support tuition, lessons, rentals, etc., for these types of activities.
The Ephraimite artists, musicians, performers, and craftsmen assisted through the scholarship will ensure Frank’s legacy endures.
Why we support Israel: The Scriptures also tell us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, to bless the seed of Abraham, and to support the root of the olive tree of Israel into which we have been grafted (Psalm 122:6-9, Genesis 12:3, Romans 11:17-19). These instructions take on even more significance as we realize that, in Messiah Yeshua, we have become part of Abraham’s seed through the spirit of adoption (Isaiah 56:1-8, Romans 8:14-17, 23, Galatians 3:28-29, 4:6-7). For that reason, we seek to bless the Land God has said He cares for, the city where He has placed His Name, and the people He has called His own (Exodus 19:3-6, Deuteronomy 11:8-12, 1 Kings 8:44-45, Daniel 9:16-19, Hosea 1:10-11, 1 Peter 2:9-10).
Knowing that our brothers and sisters of Judah have acted on the promises of Israel’s restoration and that Ephraim will one day be with them in the Land, we act in faith to demonstrate our honor to and love for the Jewish people by helping them prosper and continue to be a channel of blessing to all nations. At present, we are investigating suitable partnerships with organizations and communities in Israel, and exploring how those partnerships can bless not only the nation of Israel in the Land but the scattered people of Ephraim and Judah in the nations. As we research these possibilities, we are allowing our funds to accumulate so that we can send substantial and enduring gifts when the most suitable partnerships are identified and established (1 Corinthians 16:1-4).
