…how much more will the Father give good things to those who ask Him! ~ Matthew 7:11b
Read this full passage for context: Matthew 7:1-14
In this passage Yeshua warns us not to judge others or else we will be judged in the same way. He warns us about being offended by the speck in our brother’s eye while we are blinded by the beam in our own eye. He tells us not to give what is holy to dogs or to throw our pearls to the pigs. He instructs us to ask, seek, and knock – “…for everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it shall be opened.”
He is telling us to stop focusing on how messed up other people are, take a close look at ourselves to understand how needy we are, and then be unafraid to ask for what we need. He emphasizes this offer by commanding us to ASK, SEEK, and KNOCK! And he promises that when we do this he will answer and he will give us what we need, and he indicates that he will even give us more than that.

And then…
Then he reminds us to be good to others when he tells us to “do to others what you would want them to do to you.”
Even more, he begins this reminder with the phrase “So in all things…”
All. Things.
Recognize the beam in your eye. Get rid of it. Ask the Father to give you what you need. Be good to others.
In all things.

Father, guide me to Your truth as I examine myself, surrender to Your work in me, and learn to love You and love my neighbor as myself.
