Honoring A Military Man and Holocaust Survivor – Yossi Peled

A BYNA Special Bulletin, August 13, 2026. By Albert J. McCarn, July 30, 2026.

The survival of the Jewish people and the rebirth of the Jewish nation is a miracle that testifies to the faithfulness of the God of Abraham. It is especially encouraging to us of the House of Joseph as we expect not only our own restoration, but our eventual reconciliation with our Jewish brethren. God alone will bring to completion, but He expects us to do our part.

That is why BYNA is honored to accept the invitation to take part in We Must Not Forget, a project initiated by the co-founder of Root Source, Gidon Ariel.

We Must Not Forget is a program dedicated to connecting people to individual Holocaust survivors through the publication of their life stories for the first time in English. When Gidon asked us to participate, we asked him to recommend the story of a Holocaust survivor whose Jewish identity had been hidden, but who discovered and embraced his identity later in life. That kind of story resonates with those of us who are now discovering our own Hebraic identity.

Gidon suggested we sponsor the translation of A Military Man, the story of Major General (Res) and former Member of the Knesset Yossi Peled.

Yossi Peled was born into the inferno of the Holocaust. As a young child, he was handed over to a non-Jewish family who hid him in a cellar during the war. After the Holocaust, soldiers of the Jewish Brigade found him and helped return him to the Jewish people.

Yossi eventually immigrated to Israel, joined a kibbutz, and began building a new life. The little boy who survived the Holocaust would grow up to devote his life to defending the Jewish people. He served for thirty years in the Israel Defense Forces, rising through the Armored Corps to become a Major General and Commander of Israel’s Northern Command. He was even a contender for the position of IDF Chief of Staff.

For many years, however, Yossi rarely spoke about the childhood that had shaped him. Eventually, he confronted his past and recognized how deeply it had influenced his life and military career. His determination to ensure that what happened to his family and six million Jews would never happen again became a driving force in his life.

Help Us Bring Yossi Peled’s Story to the English-Speaking World!

Yossi Peled’s autobiography, A Military Man, tells the remarkable story of his survival, immigration to Israel, and thirty-year military career. It has already been published and is a best-seller in Hebrew. Now we want to publish Yossi’s story in English and make it accessible to readers around the world.

We need to raise $7,000 to make that happen.

The sponsorship covers the complete process of bringing his story into English and producing a professionally published book, including translation, editing, proofreading, design, formatting, publication, and project management.

B’ney Yosef North America invites you to join us in ensuring Yossi Peled’s extraordinary story of survival, rebuilding, courage, and service will not be forgotten.
