Two important witnesses tell us why it’s important to learn God’s Word. The first if King David. He says:
I have stored up your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.
Psalm 119:11 ESV
Not sinning against our Creator is very important, but there are more reasons to read and study the Bible, as Paul explains:
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV
After thousands of years, these two witnesses, along with Moses, the Prophets, the Apostles, and Messiah Yeshua himself, still exhort us to decide how serious we are going to be in identifying with our Redeemer. Is he the reason for our existence and the guide of our lives, or is he merely one compartment in our complicated lives?
Those who want to connect more deeply with our God are wise to delve into all of his word. That’s the purpose behind the B’ney Yosef North America Bible Reading Plan. This is not simply a tool for reading through the Bible in a year. It’s a resource for learning the Jewish approach to the scriptures based on the annual Torah reading cycle, and pairing those readings with a schedule that takes the reader through the entire Bible over the Hebrew year 5787-88 (2026-2027). The start date is the same as the Torah cycle: the day after Simchat Torah (Celebration of the Torah) at the end of Sukkot, which this year falls on October 5.
